The obligatory panorama of the main pinball room | Flynn finally gets to play Gauntlet, old-school | These less-common mechanical arcade games are a fun treat to find at the show | But it’s fun to play the well-known classics too | In spite of all the pinball shows we’ve been to, we still sometimes run across a really fun one we’d never seen before | Like this old-time-fire-fighting-themed one |
Reminiscent of other Williams games with the center ramp shot, but with clanging bells, and horses | Innaias’s Daddy spent many hours playing Red Baron in his youth ☺ | Another really fun one we hadn’t seen before | The game had a mode where you’d shoot at the knights at the castle gate | Innaias continues to retrace his father’s steps: this Star Wars game was one of his all-time favorites growing up | Lots of electro-mechanicals in the other room, along with Attack From Mars and Johnny Mnemonic (the former being a game-play predecessor to Medieval Madness, and the thematic predecessor to Revenge From Mars) |
Tempest was another of Pete’s favorite games | This particular version has been modified, making it even more challenging | Table-top pinball machines turn up now and then, and can be lots of fun | Working together | Ripley’s museums were always a fun treat for Pete, vacationing with family around the South as a child | This Ripley’s game does a good job recreating the fun |
There are always a few “amateur-built” games at these shows | This Windows-based game takes open-source software and runs it on a computer mounted in a full-sized pinball cabinet | While the gameplay is not quite the same as real pinball, the digital version has the advantage of being able to have dozens if not hundreds of games in the same cabinet | More working together (while Andre looks on) | Novelty Pac Man, with the really huge joystick | Unfortunately, the glowing ball had come loose so it was tricky to play, but “giant arcade games and controllers” is definitely a “thing” ☺ |
Roller derby might seem like a cheesy theme, but this game has lots of fun, fast loops on it | Classic | This game’s gimmick is “head-to-head pinball” | Debra and Andre battle it out, shooting balls over to the other person’s playfield | The 70’s and 80’s included a number of these fantasy/sci-fi-themed games | Lots of color and often wide-open playfields like this one has |
